20 Trailblazers Leading The Way In Toto Asia

The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding its production facilities in the overseas market and was doing business in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. North America was seen as an area of growth for Washlet toilets and bidet seats, as opposed its "base" markets in Japan and China.

Dhaniram Toto was documenting Toto words to ensure the next generation could read them. Many words were replaced with foreign ones. For instance, dui, which is Bengali for verandah, was used.

Origins

The early history of Toto that began in 1917, was a reflection of Japan's economic growth. In the first half of 1917, Toto made products to meet the demands for modern, new urban housing. To do this, it used the first tunnel kiln in the country to make ceramics in a continuous flow. It also pioneered the use of automation to control production, allowing for more efficiency and consistency.

The company began expanding its operations overseas in the late 1980s to profit from new markets and sales opportunities. The company established the Cera Trading Company to import and distribute other products of other manufacturers to enhance its own line of sanitary earthenwares as well as plumbing fittings. This strategy increased sales and increased the firm's market share in the world.

In the 1990s, Toto began to focus on research and development of water-related appliances. It also redesigned its system of distribution to better serve its customers and improve profit. The company adopted a just-in-time approach to supply chain management and used the same methodology for its sales process. This resulted in a greater level customer satisfaction.

Toto has continued to innovate in the toilet technology. The latest toilet from the company features a strong, eco-friendly tornado flush. Toto also makes use of recycled water in its production process and has a green purchasing policy. Toto also manufactures bathtubs, faucets, and hand dryers with greater energy efficiency than typical models.

The first Toto museum opened in the year 2015. It has exhibitions on Toto’s seminal products and their evolution, the group companies (all of which are ceramics) and the history of plumbing, and other products like bath units. In a separate gallery you can view Toto products that are sold throughout. The museum has the bathroom equipped with a washbasin and other toilet innovations.

Before the formation of Toto, members of the band did session work for a variety of musicians. Boz Scaggs album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich, guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather as well as drummer Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also performed on albums by Steely Don, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher.

Discography

With a name like Asia one would expect the group to be prog queens and kings - but it's actually a fairly simple rock group. The group started out as a group and recorded two albums: 1979's self titled debut, and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. However, even though  Going Listed here  have a diverse musical background, their biggest success was in 1982 with Toto IV.

The album was a huge blockbuster but not without its issues. The record companies put the band under pressure to deliver the top single or they would drop the album. Toto was able to do this feat with the help of the hit song "Africa."

Toto's musical mastery is due to their prior experience since the members had been session musicians for artists like Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, and Seals and Crofts before starting the group. Their sonic trademark has become the standard of  1980s music, and has inspired a lot of contemporary artists.

The album starts out hard with songs such as Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to write great AOR tunes that slowly get into your head. The album also features slow, jazzier tracks like The Little Things and Chinatown. The album closes with Great Expectations, a song that combines folk with distortion AOR and should sound completely wrong, but actually works wonderfully well.

After Toto IV the band's fortunes began to wane. David Hungate left to concentrate on his solo career and the band had to go through various drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the band following drug-related charges. The band continued to play with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.

Despite the turmoil, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation, which was not as successful as IV. The band managed to release an album that topped the charts, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. This album marked the conclusion of the original Toto lineup and was also the first album to feature a new singer, Simon Phillips.

Line-up

The band's third album, Turn Back, marked a return to the classic sextet style of the previous albums. It was a more powerful, consistent effort with a harder edge than Hydra. Its more punk-rock sound was a reflection of the maturation of the group and included drummer Bobby Kimball's greater ability on the drums and a more mature, confident vocal delivery from singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's work was sharper, more intricate, and less derivative than previously recorded efforts.

After touring to promote their album, the group recorded the band's Amsterdam live show that was released by Eagle Records as a 2-CD set entitled Falling In Between. The studio album came out shortly after, and the band embarked on a long-distance tour to promote it. During this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began exploring old tapes and demos to discover songs that had never been recorded before. The album was released as a double album titled Then and Now in 2001. It was the band's first album without one single track titled "A". The album also included a previously unreleased track titled "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial failure, and singer Williams suffered from a bad case of laryngitis which hampered his singing. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming was replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.

Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the original members of Asia The original Asia members met in England in the early part of 2006 to discuss the possibility that the band could be reformed. This lineup, minus Howe (who was working with Yes at the time) was eventually referred to as Toto XIV and toured extensively.

In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The group also had a guest appearance by singer Michael McDonald, and a backing singer named Mabvuto Carpenter.
